What are the benefits of JAMKO membership?

JAMKO membership includes various benefits. They are represented well on page Membership benefits.

Am I entitled to the blue or green student card?

If you are a full-time degree student or full-time exchange student studying in JAMK, you are most likely entitled to the blue student card. For having blue card it is important that you do not have a fixed term employment contract. In addition your studying needs to last longer than 8 months, (in JAMK or in other higher education unit worldwide).

For more information, please contact Student Secretary

Can I be a full-time student if I am working?

Full-time student can work as much as he/she wants, if he/she can still perform studies according to the Student Law and do not have a fixed term employment contract.

According to the Student Law a student must work a certain amount of hours per month to be considered a full-time student.

Student Law 21.1.1994/65

I am a working adult student, am I entitled for a blue or a green student card?

You are entitled to a green student card, because you are not a full-time student.

I study during the nights and work during the days, can I still be a full-time student?

You are most likely considered to not to be a full-time student and therefore entitled to a green student card, but it is best to ask student secretary as these things vary.

contact: opiskelijasihteeri(a)jamko.fi

I am studying a master degree while working. Am I entitled to a green or blue student card?

You are entitled to a green student card, since you are not a full-time student. If you were a full-time student, you would be granted a blue card.

What good comes from the green student card?

With the green student card you are entitled to almost the same benefits and discounts as with blue student card. A few commercial companies do not give their student discounts with green card. Benefits and discounts are well presented on page Membership benefits.

What should I do when my student card is lost? Do I need to pay my membership again?

We have a membership register so you do not have to renew your membership. The lost card has to be replaced by ordering a new one. The cost for the new card is 5 €. To order the card go to online form and choose just ordering a new card, not becoming a member:

How can I get a membership sticker, if I am unable to get it from the JAMKO office during office hours because of a long distance?

If you are an old member and unable to come to the member service points for example due to the training in the other town, you can get your membership sticker mailed to you. (For new members JAMKO can not send student cards, since the identity of the student must be verified).

To get the sticker mailed:

First renew your membership online, then send the receipt of the payment, your student card and a return envelope with your address and a stamp on it to:

I have been abroad, in the military or otherwise took a break from studies, do I have to get a new student card?

No, your excisting student card can be used, if it is ordered after year 2007. Just renew your membership online and collect a valid sticker from member service points.

Can I get a temporary student card before the real one arrives as I am going to travel and need the discount?

It is true that JAMKO gives "temporary student cards" to new students at the autumn. However, these cards are not real student cards, and therefore they are valid only in JAMKO's own services during the September.

There are no temporary student cards, that would be valid on trains etc.

Therefore you can’t unfortunately have one.

My surname/family name has changed; do I have to order a new one?

The student card should match your actual name in your ID so it would be preferred to change it.

Do I have to order a new card if I changed schools within JAMK?

It is not necessary but promoted.

How can I change my information in the records?

The membership record is upheld by JAMK's ASIO system. You can update the records by visiting study office or via ASIO online use.

Can i renew membership for the whole study year if I am going to graduate at autumn semester?

Using the student card after graduation or after the study time is over is a crime. Therefore you can not be a JAMKO member after graduation or after your studing time has ended.

In this case you can join only for the autumn semester. However, if your studies for some reason continue for the spring semester, you are able to continue your membership then.
