Start your exchange period stress-free with a Survival Kit!

A Survival Kit is a rentable utensil package offered to exchange students of JAMK University of Applied Sciences. Renting a Survival Kit is completely optional, but will surely ease one’s first days in Finland as it includes basic living necessities such as kitchen equipment, a blanket, a pillow, covers and towels. The stuff is different quality, different color and mainly used, but washed. The Survival Kit is rented as a whole and its content as individual items cannot be rented. Approximately 80% of exchange students rent a Survival Kit and good feedback has been received regarding the service.

The rental price of the Survival Kit is 75€ per one academic year out of which a deposit is returned to the renter upon the Survival Kit's return in good, clean condition. 40€ will be returned to members of the student union, 30€ to non-members. JAMKO membership is therefore a valuable investment for exchange students! The price is always the same regardless of the rental period. The kit can be reserved for one academic year at a time.

If you are interested in renting a Survival Kit, contact your own tutor. The reservation is binding and the kits can be reserved for one semester at a time. Tutors handle Survival Kit reservations and pick-ups so you will have less things to worry about in terms of your arrival.  Survival Kits can be paid and returned at the JAMKO office (Rajakatu campus, room FP23) only during office opening hours.

Survival Kit instructions for International Tutors

Tutor is in contact with the arriving exchange student well before the beginning of the semester and requests the student’s need for a Survival Kit. Tutor is responsible for providing the exchange student with all the necessary information (content, price, rental conditions) regarding the rentable Survival Kit. If the exchange student commits to renting a kit, tutor reserves one on their behalf via an Excel document found under the Optima workspace. The amount of reserved kits and the pick-up date must be marked into the document. Also the date when the Survival Kit is handed over from tutor to exchange student must be marked down.

When picking up the Survival Kit the tutor must know the name of the renter exchange student. Upon each Survival Kit pick-up the tutor fills the exchange student’s name and their Survival Kit information into a Pick Up list.  The tutor picking up the kit makes sure that the arriving exchange student receives the kit and comes to the JAMKO office to pay the Survival Kit rent. The Rental Agreement, found inside the Survival Kit, must be filled out by the exchange student and his/her tutor before the payment handling.
