By-elections start with filing of candidates and alliances
Students have the most decision-making power in the student union! The Representatives Council, elected annually from the students of Jamk UAS, decides on the major policies of the Student Union, such as how we run student affairs at JAMK, how much membership costs and what kind of issues we take a stand on. The work of the Representative Council is based on each member’s experience as a student. Each member knows for sure what works and what doesn’t work in their studies or everyday life, and where JAMKO should focus its resources.
Now is your chance to get involved! The Student Union JAMKO will elect more members for the 2025 term of office in a by-election in January 2025. The November election left a shortage of members, as some members were re-elected to the Board. Nominations will open on Monday 9 December at 12.00 and close on 15 January at 15.00. JAMKO’s Council has 21 full members and 21 alternates. The current number of full members is 18, so the election will be for three full members and 21 alternates.
A member of the Representative Council must be a member of JAMKO. Students who have joined JAMKO by 15 January for the Academic year 2024 – 2025 or spring semester 2025 can stand for election. Candidates can stand as unaffiliated candidates or in an electoral alliance, whose votes will improve the chances of the individual candidate being elected.
Electoral alliances can be formed until the end of candidacy filing period using the form on the JAMKO website. Electoral alliances will be announced on JAMKO’s website as soon as they are established and notified to JAMKO via the electronic form. Anyone can form an electoral list. Spokesperson can be a JAMKO member or a member of the council, or stand as a candidate themselves, but none of these are necessary. Electoral alliances can also form an electoral ring, which improves the chances of candidates to be elected.
