JAMKO’s Lauri Kujala runs for SAMOK’s Chair

Student Union of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences JAMKO proposes Board’s Chairperson Lauri Kujala as the Chairperson of The National Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences – SAMOK for the year 2024.The Representative Council decided to support Kujala’s campaign at its meeting on 28 August. SAMOK is a nationwide student advocacy organisation consisting of 23 Student Unions across Finland and representing 168 000 students at Universities of Applied Sciences.

Kujala is studying nursing at the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences and has served on the Board of Student Union JAMKO for two years, most recently as Chairperson of the Board. Kujala is applying as the SAMOK Board Chairperson because he has strong advocacy skills and enthusiasm that would benefit the entire field of student advocacy.

She is able to relate student issues to the overall context of the UAS and is also familiar with the context of higher education policy. He is also responsible in his work and pays attention to the equal treatment of students.”, says Vesa Saarikoski, Rector of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.

At SAMOK, Lauri wants to influence the way students in higher education are perceived and the amount and quality of support for Student Unions in their advocacy work. Students should be seen as experts in higher education and the work of student activists should be seen as meaningful. Student organisations’ influencing should be provided support, as local actives play an important role in promoting the social status of students.

Lauri tries to meet with student unions on-site or remotely, but you can also meet him at the SAMOK’s Chairpersons and Executive Directors meeting in Lahti, at the JAMKO annual anniversary gala and at the General Assembly at Rovaniemi starting from Wednesday 25 October.

SAMOK’s Board for 2024 will be elected at the General Assembly in Rovaniemi on 27 October.
